This policy explains how the Chargespot website at chargespot.app and the Chargespot app handle personal data. It is written for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules under them.
Who we are
Chargespot is a product of Charge23 Labs Private Limited (CIN U29304DL2023PTC419198), registered office H. No. 190, Ground Floor, Baba Farid Puri, West Patel Nagar, New Delhi, Delhi 110008, India. We decide why and how your data is used, so we are the data fiduciary for it.
You sign in to Chargespot with Charge23 Accounts, the sign-in service shared by Charge23 products. Your Charge23 Accounts identity (phone, email and passkeys) is also held by Charge23 Labs Private Limited.
In short
- We collect what Chargespot needs to plan trips, find chargers and keep your charging and vehicle history.
- Location is used while you use the app, and in the background only during navigation, a trip or a charging session.
- We don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.
- You can delete your account at any time, and ask us for a copy of your data or to correct it.
What we collect
Account and profile
Your phone number and email, used to sign in with a one-time code or a passkey; your name; and, if you add them, a profile photo, a short bio, saved places such as home or work, and your notification preferences.
Your vehicles
The vehicles you add, their settings and the charging preferences you choose. If you add a vehicle registration number, we check it against the national vehicle registration record through our verification provider and store the record it returns. That record can include the registered owner's name and father's name, addresses, registration and fitness dates, insurance and financing details, and the vehicle's specifications. Only add a registration you are entitled to use.
Location
Your device's location, to show nearby chargers, plan routes and give directions. During navigation, an active trip or (on iPhone) a charging session, the app records your location in the background, roughly every 25 metres, together with your phone's battery level and whether you are driving, so it can keep directions, arrival estimates and charging updates accurate when the screen is off. We keep your trips, routes and driving sessions as your history.
Vehicle data from an OBD adapter
If you choose to connect an OBD adapter over Bluetooth, the app reads live vehicle signals such as battery charge, voltage, current, temperature and speed, together with GPS position, and uploads them to build your vehicle's charging and efficiency profile. Connecting an adapter is optional.
Charging
Charging sessions you start or track, chargers you add at home or work, and private stations you add, including their address, location and photos.
Reviews, check-ins and reports
Ratings, reviews, check-ins, photos and station reports you add. These are shown to other drivers with your name and profile photo, and the photos are publicly accessible.
Support
What you send us when you ask for help or share feedback, including screenshots, and the device and app details you include.
Device, usage and crash data
Your device model, operating system, app version, a push notification token, the screens and features you use, crash and error reports, and, if your device allows it, its advertising identifier (see below).
The beta waitlist
When you join the waitlist on our website: your name, email, mobile number, the EV and variant you own or plan to buy, your city, your phone platform, whether you'd like to help test Chargeport Access, the time you consented and which version of this policy you agreed to. Your EV choice is self-reported; Chargeport Access interest doesn't connect to your vehicle.
Using our website
Standard request logs (IP address, browser, pages and times), session recordings and heatmaps through Microsoft Clarity, and, only if you ask a vehicle page to use your location, your location rounded to about 1 km in your browser before it is sent. Our business and support forms open an email in your own mail app; nothing is sent until you send it.
Payments
Chargespot doesn't take payments today, and we don't collect card or bank details. When you pay for charging, you pay the charging operator.
How we use it
- To provide Chargespot: sign-in, maps and directions, trip and charging plans, charging history, vehicle profiles and notifications. We process this data because you use the service and ask us to.
- To contact you about the beta and invitations, with the consent you give when you join the waitlist.
- To keep Chargespot working and safe: fixing crashes, preventing abuse and fraud, and securing accounts.
- To understand how Chargespot is used and improve it, using usage statistics and the vehicle and charging data you share.
- To answer support requests and grievances.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time; that doesn't affect what we did before.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only with service providers that process it for us, under contract and for the purposes above:
- Hosting and delivery: Google Cloud (servers, databases and file storage), Cloudflare (network and security) and Vercel (our website).
- Sign-in messages: Twilio (SMS one-time codes) and Resend (email).
- Maps and directions: Google Maps Platform (maps, navigation, place search, geocoding, routes and speed limits) and OpenFreeMap (map tiles on our website). These receive locations and route points.
- Weather: Apple WeatherKit, which receives locations along your route.
- Vehicle registration checks: Surepass, which receives the registration number you enter.
- Notifications: OneSignal, Apple and Google, which receive a user ID, push token and notification content such as charging-session updates.
- Analytics, crash and error reports: Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics), PostHog, Sentry and Microsoft Clarity.
- App updates: Shorebird, which checks for app updates.
- Charging operators: when you start or check a charging session through Chargespot, the details needed for that session go to the operator running the charger.
We may also share personal data:
- with other Chargespot drivers, for reviews, check-ins and photos you choose to post;
- with courts, regulators or law enforcement when the law requires it, or to protect people's safety or our legal rights;
- with a buyer or successor if our business is merged or sold, who must protect it as this policy does.
We don't sell personal data.
Analytics and advertising IDs
Our analytics tools link usage events to a pseudonymous user ID and basic account details, so we can see how features are used and fix problems. Google Firebase Analytics can read your device's advertising identifier: on iPhone only if you allow tracking when asked, and on Android unless you turn it off in your device settings. We don't show ads in Chargespot and don't use it to show you ads elsewhere.
Cookies on our website
Microsoft Clarity sets its own cookies to record sessions and heatmaps, which help us see where our website is confusing. Where we use Google Analytics or PostHog for page statistics, they may set their own cookies or identifiers. Our website keeps your day or evening view in your browser for the session. We don't use advertising cookies. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings.
Where it is stored
We store Chargespot data, including backups, on Google Cloud in India, in the Mumbai region. Some of the providers above process data outside India, including in the United States, Singapore and the European Union. We transfer data abroad only as Indian law allows.
How long we keep it
- Your account data: your profile, vehicles, trips, location history, OBD data, charging history and content are kept while you have a Chargespot account, so your history keeps working, and are deleted when you delete your account. You can ask us to delete parts of it sooner.
- Waitlist details: up to 12 months after you sign up, then erased. We keep only non-personal records, such as whether an invitation was sent.
- Sign-in records: one-time code records are deleted about 30 days after use.
- Backups: copies age out of our backups within about 30 days.
- Analytics and crash data: kept by those providers under their retention settings. Ask us and we will request deletion of yours.
- Records we must keep: charging, payment and refund records are kept for as long as tax, accounting and other laws require.
When you delete your account, in the app or through our account deletion page, we revoke Chargespot's access first and then delete or anonymise your Chargespot data, including the copies held by our providers where we control them. We keep charging, payment, refund, and financial records only where the law requires them, with free-form personal fields removed and your user reference replaced by a stable pseudonymous tombstone, so they no longer point to you. If any file you uploaded, such as a profile photo or a support screenshot, is still available after you delete your account, write to us and we will remove it. Deleting Chargespot doesn't delete your Charge23 Accounts identity or other Charge23 products; ask us if you want that too.
Your choices and permissions
- Location: allow it while using the app, or always for navigation in the background. You can change this at any time in your phone's settings; navigation and trip tracking work less well without it.
- Bluetooth: only used to connect an OBD adapter you choose.
- Camera and photos: only used when you add a profile photo, a check-in or review photo, or a support screenshot.
- Notifications: turn them on or off in the app or your phone's settings.
- Tracking and advertising ID: decline the tracking prompt on iPhone, or reset or delete your advertising ID on Android.
- Emails and messages about the beta: ask us to stop at any time.
Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can:
- ask for a summary of the personal data we hold and how we use it;
- ask us to correct, complete or update it;
- ask us to erase it, or delete your account yourself;
- withdraw consent you have given;
- nominate someone to exercise these rights if you die or can no longer do so;
- raise a grievance with us, and if you're not satisfied, with the Data Protection Board of India.
Write to support@chargespot.app from the phone number or email on your account so we can confirm it's you. We never ask for your password, one-time code or passkey.
Children
Chargespot is meant for people aged 18 or over, and we don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, write to us and we will delete it.
Security
We encrypt data in transit, limit who in our team can reach personal data, and keep access and deletion records. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when Chargespot changes. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email, and ask for your consent again where the law requires it. The date at the top shows the latest version. Our terms of use apply alongside it.
